Not sure if your child needs braces yet?

Stop guessing. A specialist orthodontist examines your child, takes the photographs, x-ray and 3D scan needed to see what’s actually going on under the gums, and tells you plainly whether it’s time to act or time to wait.

    The appointment

What's included in the $150 consult

    Specialist orthodontic assessment

An orthodontist examines your child's teeth, bite and jaw development — a growth assessment, not a hygiene check.

    Clinical photographs

A standard set of photos of the face, teeth and bite. They become the starting point everything later is measured against.

    OPG panoramic x-ray

A single wide image of the whole jaw. It shows the adult teeth that haven't come through yet, which is the part you can't see by looking.

3D scan of the teeth and bite

A digital model built from a scan, so there are no trays of putty to sit through. It's what the treatment plan is worked out on.

    $150

    $400 off

    Until 31 October

Assessment, photographs, OPG x-ray and 3D scan. Records are what treatment planning and documentation are built on, so they’re taken at the same visit rather than billed later.

And what isn't included, so there are no surprises

Worth a look if you've noticed any of these

    Adult teeth coming in crooked

Or arriving somewhere they clearly shouldn't be.

Baby teeth lost early or very late

Both change how the adult teeth come through.

    Crowding, or teeth that overlap

Often the first thing a parent notices.

Top and bottom teeth don't meet

An overbite, underbite, or teeth that cross over.

    Thumb sucking past about five

Habits can shift the shape of a growing jaw.

    Your dentist mentioned it

Even as a "maybe later" — worth checking now.

    7

The age the Australian Society of Orthodontists suggests for a first orthodontic check — years before most children would need braces.

    Early doesn't mean early braces

At seven, most kids have enough adult teeth through for an orthodontist to see how the jaw is developing and where the remaining teeth are headed. The records are what make that visible: the x-ray shows the teeth still under the gum, and the scan shows how the bite is meeting.
For most children the honest answer is wait, and we’ll say so. For a smaller number, a simple plate or a short early phase now means less complicated treatment later — and that’s only worth knowing if someone looks properly.

    What "specialist orthodontist" actually means

    1

    You arrive

No paperwork marathon. We take a few details and you meet the team.

    2

    Records

Photographs, the panoramic x-ray and the 3D scan. Nothing uncomfortable, and no trays of putty — the scan is a small camera moved around the teeth.

    3

    The assessment

An orthodontist examines your child and goes through the records with you on screen, so you see what they're seeing.

    4

    A plain answer

Act now, wait and watch, or nothing to worry about. If treatment is recommended you get the options and a written quote — and no deposit is taken on the day.

    Who you'll see

    What "specialist orthodontist" actually means

It’s a protected title, not a description. Any dentist can offer braces or aligners. A specialist orthodontist has done the extra training and is registered in the specialty.

A dental degree, then three more years

A full-time university specialist program in orthodontics, on top of qualifying as a dentist.

Registered as a specialist with the Dental Board of Australia

You can look up any of our orthodontists on the Ahpra public register before you come in.

Growing jaws are the whole job

Orthodontics is all we do, and a large share of that is children whose adult teeth are still arriving.

    Comfortable saying "not yet"

Seeing enough children means recognising the ones who need nothing done for another two years.

Your child will see one of these three

    Questions parents ask

No. You can book directly with the Canberra City clinic.
Because the important part is usually invisible. The panoramic x-ray shows the adult teeth still under the gum and how much room they have; the 3D scan shows how the bite is actually meeting. Without them an orthodontist is guessing at the half of the picture that matters most. They're also the records any treatment plan has to be built and documented on.
A panoramic dental x-ray is a low-dose image, and we only take one where the orthodontist judges it clinically appropriate for that child. If your child has had a recent OPG through your dentist, bring it or ask them to send it and we may be able to use that instead. Have the practice approve this wording.
Seven is the age the Australian Society of Orthodontists recommends for a first check, and for most children at that age the recommendation is to wait and monitor. Looking early is about timing treatment well, not starting it sooner.
Then you'll be told that, and you'll have a proper set of records on file to compare against when we review. That's a useful outcome, not a wasted appointment.
Answer to confirm with the practice — parents will ask this, and a clear yes or no here will lift conversions either way.
No deposit is taken at this appointment and nothing is committed to. If treatment is recommended you'll get the options and the cost in writing, and you take that home to think about.
Not at this price — the offer is for the Canberra City clinic only. You're welcome to book a standard consultation at the other clinics.
Yes. Each child needs their own consult and records, so the $150 applies per child. Tell us on the call and we'll allow time for both. confirm
We don't process health fund rebates in the practice. We provide itemised receipts so you can lodge the claim with your fund directly.
One of our team calls you within one business day to find a time and explain what to expect. Nothing is booked or charged until you've spoken to a person.
We use them to contact you about this appointment and nothing else. We don't sell or share your information, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.
