The majority of all orthodontic treatment can be undertaken once all of the baby teeth have been lost; however, there are certain circumstances where early treatment is required. Most early treatment involves widening the top jaw and possibly the lower jaw, and correcting crossbites or narrow arches.
Before undertaking treatment in younger patients, we will determine that there is a long-term benefit which minimises the need for any further orthodontic treatment later in life, or possibly even the need to remove adult teeth when the patient is older.
Early treatment may involve removable plates, plates that are glued in, anti-thumb-sucking appliances and possibly the use of partial braces if needed to align the front teeth. Our Specialist Orthodontists will advise you if early treatment is required.
