Sarah South
From an early age, Sarah knew she wanted to pursue a career in dentistry. “I wanted to work in a field where I could positively impact someone’s health. I wanted to dispel the idea that dentistry is about fixing problems rather than preventing those problems in the first place.”
In 2011 during Sarah’s final year of high school, she completed a Certificate III in Dental Assisting. Upon completion, she was awarded the Outstanding Achievement in Vocational Studies Certificate of Excellence by the Board of Senior Secondary Studies. This was my first taste of dentistry, and it set me on a path to study a Bachelor of Oral Health (Therapy/Hygiene) at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga.
Since graduating, Sarah has practiced as a hygienist and therapist in both general and specialist settings. Sarah’s work has been extensive which included treatment planning, clinical diagnosis, non-surgical periodontal therapy, extracting deciduous dentition, conducting and assessing various types of radiographs, administering local anaesthetic, applying of fluoride treatments and preventative and restorative therapies for people under the age of 26, and of course, oral health education and promotion.
Sarah joined the Supersmiles team in 2016. “I thoroughly enjoy working in a well-established orthodontic practice. I love the team I work with, and most of all, the patients I get to know and treat. I am dedicated to educating my patients on best oral health practice and providing them with the utmost care and respect.”
Outside of work, Sarah is married to her loving husband and together they have a beautiful three-year-old daughter. They love playing outside hanging out with their pet chickens and doing arts and crafts together. “I’m an avid gardener – I may be biased but I think my home-grown tomatoes are the best in town!”
